Thanks to everyone who came out for our Boxing Week Sale. It was our Best Sale Evah! And yet somehow everything seemed to go smoother than in previous years. Lines didn't even get too crazy.

Note that we will be closed until January 2nd, this Sunday, when we will re-open at 11am with a bunch of excellent new inventory--CDs, Records, DVDs, Blu-Rays, Criterions!

I saw a bunch of new faces during the sale this year and received some nice compliments on the web site and mailing lists. Thanks for those.

To the newbies, I should point out some of our online features:

Mailing Lists

We have two mailing lists. The General Mailing List is used exclusively to announce our sales. In addition to our annual Boxing Week Sale, we also have an annual Summer Sale, usually in June or July. In 2010 we also had two vinyl sales (each happened on Record Store Day) and a DVD/Blu-Ray sale. We also had a few one-day-only sales on things like Box Sets and Soundtracks. We also announced our Classical Music Sale thru this list when we were getting rid of the genre. So, if you're interested in sales, join the General Mailing List. It is a text-only mailing list (no graphics are sent with the announcements).

The other mailing list is the Specialty Mailing List. I use that to announce interesting products that are on the horizon--some of which we will be stocking and some of which we will not stock unless someone special orders it. Mostly vinyl is announced thru it but occasionally I'll mention an odd CD item. If you're into vinyl or limited run music, you should join this list. However, sometimes I'll send multiple emails a month thru that list whereas the General Mailing List only gets a half dozen or so emails a year. It is an HTML-based mailing list (I sometimes send album art with the announcements). The forthcoming Abner Jay 10" pictured at left was in a recent issue of the SML and here's a full issue for you to check out.

Facebook

We have a Facebook page at facebook.com/vortexrecords. We use that page to announce sales, interesting products that come in, and news items that should be of interest to music fans. For instance, this past week I posted links to free music by The Smiths, Fake, Dirty Projectors, Gorillaz, jj, and Klaxons. I also post interesting videos and links to interviews and such there so Friend the page or Like it or whatever the lingo is to have those posts and announcements appear on your wall.
