NOTE: We will be closed Friday July 1. Enjoy the holiday! The following have all been announced by Mississippi Records for an early July release.
Fred McDowell - The Alan Lomax Recordings
The first ever recordings of Fred McDowell! Recorded by Alan Lomax in 1959. The first vinyl release dedicated entirely to this phenomenal recording session. 12 songs that highlight the depth of his repetoire - from droning & hypnotic versions of songs that later became blues standards such as "Shake Em On Down" & "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" to his deeply felt renditions of spirituals like "Keep Your Lamp Trimmed & Burning" . Accompanied at times by some amazing hair comb playing & beautiful backup vocals. Comes in an old school "tip on" sleeve with liner notes by Nathan Salsburg. A co-release with our friends Domino Sound. The stuff of dreams.

Reissued for the first time, the legendary Malian Rail Band's classic 1970 debut LP. Based out of the Buffet Bar of the Station Hotel in Bamako, the band was sponsored by the Ministry of Information. Swirling afro-latin guitars & horns. Malian folk songs modernized & played by some of the country's finest musicians including Tidani Kone & Salif Keita.

Compilation of 78s by the master of Indian classical vocal music. First U.S release dedicated to his work. Heavy & spiritual austere performances of 10 ragas. Not easy listening by any means but ultimately very rewarding. Comes in an old school "tip on" cover. Includes a 12 page booklet with many archival photographs & notes by Ian Nagoski.

Reissued for the first time, a crazed Portland punk record from 1979. A side project of Ice Nine, Count Vertigo only existed for this one record as a band. Side A features "I Am A Mutant" - an uneasy little song with a relentless menacing organ riff. On the flip is "Patriot X" ...an angry political song that still rings a little too true. Two heroic punk anthems not to miss, if you like that sort of thing.

In 1978 Jack Body recorded an amazing amount of street musicians in Java. His ear was geared not just towards traditional folk forms of music but also to all the new hybrids of pop street music. Here we find a mix of his recordings that really cannot be classified easily. Influences on the music include Bollywood soundtracks, American rock & pop, Javanese traditional songs & modern gamelan music. All these recordings were made in the street so you can hear babies crying, car horns & food frying throughout. Raw folk music by & for the people, this is the real deal. There was too much good music to fit on an LP, so we've included a free bonus 7" 33 RPM EP of material. Comes in an old school "tip on" sleeve. Includes a booklet with liner notes by Jack Body. A truly unique record filled with beautiful & stirring sounds.

Two songs from Mauritanian guitarist and singer Hadrami Ould Medeh. Originally pressed in Lebanon in 1970. There were 500 copies pressed but only distributed at shows. Before a second pressing could be made war broke out in Lebanon.

The second volume of recordings in our series of Madagascar music. From the archives of Montreal recordist, Charlie Brooks. While containing some similar artists as volume one, Fanafody focuses more on his second trip through the island during 2002 featuring violin players and throat breathing singers. Includes extensive photography and liner notes booklet.

Reissued for the first time - Dead Moons first record! Originally released in 1988. Dead Moon were a band that existed outside of the constraints that time & style usually impose on artists. An authentic mix of psychedelic rock, punk, blues, country, & every other American music worth a damn. This LP features all time classics such as "Graveyard" (A 13th Floor Elevators type vibrating psychedelic song), "Don't Burn The Fires" & "I Hate The Blues". Lo - fi as hell. Remastered from the original tapes. We are very proud to make this LP available on vinyl once more.

Dead Moon's 2nd LP. Great pop ballads sit side by side with heavy rock songs. A hit laden record featuring classics such as "Dead Moon Night", "A Miss Of You", "54/40 or Fight", "Time Has Come Today", "Demona", & "On My Own". Originally released in 1989, easily one of the top 4 rock records of all time. Remastered from the original tapes.

Dead Moon's 3rd LP from 1990. Another classic with hits such as "Not The Only One', Crystal Is Falling', "Dagger Moon", "Walking On My Grave', "Johnny's Got A Gun" & "Unknown Passage". A perfect record, not for the faint of heart. Remastered from the original tapes.
