Como Now: The Voices of Panolo Co., Mississippi
New used CD (soul) and Vinyl (jazz) arrivals & Daptone news
August 18, 2010 - 12:08 AM
Right off the top: Yes, the new Budos Band LP will soon be in the store. It's getting rave reviews. Hopefully we'll have it by the end of the week or early next. I think the customs inspectors are dancing to it. As usual with Daptone, they'll be priced around $15 for the first shipment. Restocks of all of Sharon Jones' LPs and a few other Daptone titles are also coming. Out of Print Daptone
I managed to track down a couple copies of Como Now, an a capella gospel album that Daptone released four years ago which almost immediately went out of print. Since I only managed to find two (and I've been looking for almost a year!), I'm not doing any holds on this one but if you join our Facebook group, I'll post notice there as soon as it arrives. I'll post here on the site as well but most people on FB have some sort of alert thingy on their phone gadgets. Here's Daptone's description:
Como Now: The Voices of Panolo Co., Mississippi
Deep in the heart of Panola County, Mississippi lies Como, a small rural town where children and grown folks alike have been living and breathing gospel for as long as they can remember. In the summer of 2006, Daptone Records placed a small ad in local papers and on the radio inviting singers to come down to Mt. Mariah Church to record their songs. The result is Como Now, a stirring collection of traditional and original a cappella gospel from the voices of Panola County's own families.
Jazz LPs
A bunch of really nice Jazz LPs came in today, mostly Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Mingus, and Don Cherry. A number of them sold right away but there's probably a half dozen or more still remaining. They are in tip-top shape (sleeves and LPs). Very nice. Priced between $10 and $20. The same cat also sold us some prog, including a few Harmonium, Van der Graaf Generator, and some other titles I forgot to write down.
Soul CDs
And some nice soul CDs are also in stock at the moment. Used but not abused:
Johhny Johnson and the Bandwagon - Breakin' Down the Walls of Heartache
Gloria Jones - Share My Love
Gloria Scott - What Am I Gonna Do
Little Milton - Waiting For
The Drifters - 1959 - 1965
Lee Dorsey - Soul Mine
Tommy Tate - Hold On
Al Wilson - Searching for the Dolphins
Sam Cooke - Live at the Harlem Square Club
The Fantastic Johnny C - Phil-La of Soul
That's all. I go seepies now.
