At the tail of Pop/Rock you'll now find a great gathering of terrific tunes. I've marshalled together the best funk, rhythm & blues, soul, and doo-wop we had in stock: Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Mary Wells, Irma Thomas, Don Covay, Syl Johnson, Denise LaSalle, George Clinton and Parliament, Betty Davis, Sly and the Family Stone, Arthur Alexander, Bettye Swann, Candi Staton, Otis Redding, and many other artists. There's also a row or two of compilations from Ace, Sue, Numero Group, Stax, Volt, Motown... yadda yadda yadda.

What didn't I put there? Well, I left out what usually falls under the heading of "Contemporary R&B". Why? It just didn't feel right. When people come in asking for Soul (something they do often), they're usually looking for Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Al Green, Etta James, Carla & Rufus Thomas, James Carr, Eddie Floyd, Doris Duke, and others who sound nothing like Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, Angie Stone, Maxwell, or Erika Badu. Or, if they're not, they should be. I've got nothing against those artists* but it's just a different sound and I didn't want to pollute my feelings about this great new section. Of course, we have records by all of those adult contemporary singers... I just haven't moved them to the end of Pop / Rock.

Apologies to those I just offended.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you like music like this....

The Five Satins - In the Still of the Nite
Marcell Strong - Mumble in My Ear
Irma Thomas - I Need Your Love So Bad
James Hunter - I'll Walk Away
Candi Staton - He Called Me Baby
Eli "Paperboy" Reed - Am I Wasting My Time
Denise LaSalle - Breaking Up Sombody's Home
Tyrone Davis - Can I Change My Mind
Mary Wells - You Beat Me to the Punch
Mayer Hawthorne - When I Said Goodbye
Wynonie Harris - I Like My Baby's Pudding

... you'll find it in the new R&B / Soul / Funk / Doo Wop section.

* Okay, that's not true.
