This week sees the release of two new titles by Vortex favourites PJ Harvey and Mogwai. The Mogwai's a 2LP and comes with a DL code.

The Harvey got a great writeup on Pitchfork (8.8 outta 10) and Allmusic gives the Mogwai 4 outta 5 stars. We haven't seen the Mogwai used on CD yet but the Harvey has been in--there was one there when I left last night.

I've also started getting the "are you doing Record Store Day" calls/emails. Yup, we are. It's on April 16th this year. A Saturday, unlike the November debacle.

Last year we were the only store in the world to do an exclusive compilation, To Think, We've Never Met, which we gave away free with each purchase--limited to 75 copies--and we also gave away a heap of prizes. And, we discounted our used vinyl by 25%!

I haven't nailed down the details of everything that we're doing this year but will update the site as I do. The compilation was a crazy amount of work and I'm not sure if I'm up to it again, but I'm considering it. Marissa Nadler has already expressed interest in participating if we do do it. I'm working on prizes as well and will try and get some RSD items from other countries (to my knowledge, last year we were the only shop in the country with the UK version of the Black Keys' 12" and the first pressing of the Soft Machine).

For sure there'll be exclusive prizes, but the whole raffle thing is a pain in the butt so I'm trying to come up with some other giveaway system.
