Today we received three new albums on vinyl, all colored, all limited runs:

The first is Matthew Robert Cooper's Miniatures. Cooper is better known as Eluvium and I made a post about him last week. This new LP is limited to 2000 copies with the first 1000 on cream colored vinyl. Here's an MP3 of track #7. $19.99, cream-colored vinyl.

Another (mostly) instrumental release we brought in was Madagascar's Goodbye East, Goodbye West. It's the band's second release. You may have heard their first, Forced March, being played in the store on the rare occasions that we saw it come through. This new record is a lovely affair. Listen to an MP3 of the title track. The album features accordion, musical saw, glockenspiel, and acoustic guitar and bass. Certainly one of my favorite releases so far this year. $19.99. Limited to 500 copies on blue vinyl.

The third of today's arrivals is a first-time pressing of Ponytail's 2006 release, Kamehameha on white vinyl. It's loud, fast, crazy, and fun. I think the initial reaction to listening is wtf? (mine was, way back when) but it quickly becomes addictive. Here's track #7: Jammin' On a Major Scale. Crank it, fall for Molly Siegel. $19.99.

Eluvium - Life Through Bombardment
June 11, 2009 - 11:50 PM
Life Through Bombardment is an absolutely gorgeous 7xLP set. Eluvium (Matthew Cooper) has been making beautiful ambient music since 2003. This set collects virtually every Eluvium song ever released (plus a bunch of rare and unreleased non-album tracks) for the first (and last, apparently!) time on vinyl.

Limited to 1000 pressings, it comes housed in a hardbound, linen-cover book, with metallic gold foil stamping and embossed text on the spine, and a beautiful full-color print embossed into the front cover. This is a stunning piece of work all-around. $175. Note that due to the high price, we only brought in one of these. Comes with a download code so you also get all the tracks as mp3s.

The new Bardo Pond has arrived. It’s a limited pressing. Far as we know, Vortex is the only store in the city stocking it. Pitchfork gave it a 7.3, saying it "contains many prized tracks ... and the highlights hold their own against anything in the vast Bardo Pond back catalogue. ... An ideal complement to such vintage Bardo albums as 1997's Lapsed or 2001's Dilate, and it is a comfort to take the time to idle awhile in its enveloping glow."

Listen to an MP3.

180g RTI vinyl (1640 copies pressed). Included with the vinyl is a CD copy (not a CDR) of the album and game five and a half, a limited run CD (747 copies) that is now out of print. All that for just $23.99!

We also got a couple copies of Peri on CD. They were limited to a very small run of 350 and are $13.99.

Bardo Pond fans may also be interested in some other vinyl we have in stock from Three Lobed Records: Jack Rose’s The Black Dirt Sessions, Heavy Winged’s Alive in My Mouth, Sarin Smoke’s Smokescreen, and Basalt Fingers (S/T). They’re all out of print so we’re probably your last chance to get them for SRP. Stellar sounds. Great music. Gorgeous packaging. Heavy vinyl.
